For me, I think about the many times I have visited websites and exited within seconds because of the look and feel of the website for me as a user. This could be because of the layout of the site, the font used which maybe I could not read, or any other issue that did not feel right for me.

They then send you a qualification test before being onboarded. Once you qualify as a tester, they will send you an email anytime there is a project that matches your requirements. You will need to click on participate and fill in some details for them to determine if you are an eligible match and if so, they will invite you to work on the job. I have worked for uTest for several years and the experience has been great. Although I’m not as active on the platform these days as I was earlier, the secret to success is to respond to their emails as soon as a project becomes active since many other people are also waiting for jobs.
Also note that the higher your rating is, the more jobs you get.
Requirements for Testing Websites
To work as a website or app tester, you will need to have the following;
- A computer or a mobile phone, whichever applies for the test
- Internet connection
- A quiet environment
- Be 18 years and above
- Be conversant with the test language… please note some tests could be in other languages apart from English and it is important to indicate if you are conversant in other languages when applying.
- A payment method to receive payments
- Some companies may ask you to have a microphone and a webcam, but these are not always a requirement.
Other related jobs you can do with a computer and internet connection include transcription jobs, writing jobs, and online research jobs.

The following are the best website testing companies that I and other people have worked for and received our payment.
1. UserTesting
This is one of the most credible companies in the industry and they employ many testers from all over the world. You can use a computer or a mobile phone for several of their tests.
To work for UserTesting, apply online and then do a practice test. If approved, you can start receiving paid tests on your dashboard. Their compensation is $10 for a test of approximately 20 minutes and they pay via PayPal.
They send you about two tests per week and you can even earn more than $10 per test if you do a live customer interview test where you can earn about $30 for a 30 minutes test.
Please note that tests get snatched fast on this platform and whoever gets to it first gets the job.
2. uTest
You start on uTest by doing an online application as I discussed earlier when I talked about my experience with them. You will then receive a practice test which you have to pass for you to receive paid tests.
They have various jobs like website testing, checking for bugs, testing software, and apps, etc. Their pay varies depending on the job you do, so be sure to check them out to see what is available.
3. Userlytics
To work for Userlytics, you apply online and then do a qualification test. The test will require you to speak out your thoughts aloud as you test a website. If you pass, they onboard you for paid tests.
They require you to have a microphone to do their jobs, which include website and app testing. Payment is through Paypal and depends on the job done. Ensure you complete your profile fully to be eligible for more jobs.
4. Enroll
Enroll is different from some of the other sites in that you can start working as soon as you sign up on their website as they have no qualification tests. Most of their tests are also much shorter and simpler compared to other companies and they do not require you to have a microphone to work.
You can complete a job in a minute on this platform, but the pay for these quick tasks ranges from a few cents to about a dollar and a half. They pay through PayPal.
5. TestingTime
You apply online to work with TestingTime after which you will receive notifications of available projects via email.
If you are not comfortable with your face and screen being recorded, then this company is not for you. Their tests are much longer, about 30 to 90 minutes long, and happen on Skype where they record you as you perform the test.
The good news is that their pay is much better, and you get paid 50 euros per study via PayPal.
6. TryMyUI
With TryMyUI, you can start receiving jobs via email after signing up to work with them on their website. Their tests are about 20 minutes long and you earn $10 for every test.
This is another website where you have to be comfortable having your voice and screen recorded. If you are, then go ahead and apply and you can expect about three tests per week. The pay is weekly through PayPal.
Some people have reported that they are very strict with their testers, so a point to note before applying.
7. Get paid to test with Validately
To start with Validately, sign up online after which you will start receiving emails when work is available. They have both mobile and website testers and pay ranges from $10 to over $60 depending on the test you do and the amount of time you spend on the test.
Validately offers both quick tasks of about 5 minutes besides longer live tests that can go up to 60 minutes. The longer tasks obviously pay more, up to $70 per task. Pay is via PayPal within a week of completing a task.
8. UserBrain
Sign up for UserBrain on their website to receive a sample test. Once approved, they will send you test invitations through email. You can do the tests using your phone or computer.
Their tests are about 10 minutes long and you earn $5 per test. You will need a microphone to take their tests and they also record your screen. Payments are via PayPal after a $10 threshold.
9. UserZoom
To work for UserZoom, sign up online, download their screen recorder and then do a test. After passing the test, you receive test invitations by email.
Their tests are about 15 minutes long and the pay is on average $10 per test paid through PayPal. If your rating is high, you can expect more test invitations.
10. Test IO
Sign up for Test IO on their website to receive test invitations. On this platform, you test websites, games, and apps mainly for bugs.
Pay is about $50 for every bug you discover on the platform. This is one website that has several payment methods. Apart from PayPal, they also pay through Payoneer, Skrill, or bank transfer, which works well for those who have no access to PayPal.
11. UserFeel
Register on the UserFeel website and then take a qualification test before you can work. They rate you after the test and the grade you receive will determine how often they send you test invitations via email.
Their tests take 10 to 20 minutes to complete and your compensation is $10 paid via PayPal. They also pay via Amazon gift cards.
12. UserCrowd Tester
This is a less known site that provides short and simple tasks to do once you sign up. The tasks that take a few seconds to complete pay 10 cents per task.
You are probably wondering if 10 cents is really worth your time. Imagine simple tasks like clicking something on a website or answering a question. You can complete these in a second or two, and if you complete several in your spare time every day, you have yourself a few extra bucks every month that you couldn’t have had otherwise.
They pay through credits and one task is worth 1 or 2 credits. You can request to be paid through PayPal after accumulating 100 credits, which is the equivalent of $10.
13. TestBirds
This is another website where you test websites and software. Start by signing up and taking a qualification test. The great thing is if you pass the test, you get a 5 euro bonus.
The pay at TestBirds is higher than average with a pay of 20 euros per usability test. You can also earn extra by discovering bugs on a website.
The great thing about TestBirds is that you can take your time to complete a task as long as you don’t go past the deadline given.
