If you dream of working from home on a flexible schedule in your pajamas, Lionbridge is the company to work for. Lionbridge uses thousands of home-based individuals to carry out various tasks.
I have worked for Lionbridge as a quality rater for several years. I can confirm that this is a legitimate company offering a variety of work from home jobs.
I will now give a Lionbridge review based on my experience working with them.
Working from home for Lionbridge
Lionbridge hires thousands of workers from all over the world through its crowdsourcing platform and on their careers portal. You work from home to improve their services and products on a flexible schedule.
To work as a crowd worker for Lionbridge, you need to sign up on their crowdsourcing platform, the Smart Crowd. They then add you to their database after providing some basic information about yourself.
Once you sign in, they provide you with some basic English evaluation tests. Although these tests are not mandatory, it is advisable to take them to increase your chances of getting jobs.
The Lionbridge work-from-home jobs are based on location and you need to click on your location to see the jobs for you to apply for. You will also be able to see the job’s compensation before you work.

Maps quality analyst
A map quality analyst determines the accuracy and relevance of information after performing online searches. You follow certain provided guidelines as you work.
You will work on the map and non-map tasks in this role. You will need to understand your country’s national and local information besides having superb research skills. You also need to be well-versed in your country’s current affairs, social media, and geographical and cultural information.
Specific requirements for this role include:
- Must be fluent in English
- Must have lived in the country you will work in for three consecutive years.
- Pass an evaluation test to demonstrate that you can follow the guidelines.
- Have a search engine, website research, and online maps experience
- Be familiar with the cultural affairs, news, sports, media, social media, and business information of the country you will work from
Rater
As a Lionbridge rater, you analyze web pages, text, images, and other search engine information and provide feedback using online tools.
As a rater, you need to log in to the online tool and select the tasks you want to do within your schedule. The primary job is to evaluate the search engine results concerning the search query.
Most rating tasks require the rater to have both a computer and a smartphone.
Specific requirements for raters
- Own an Android smartphone with an operating system of 4.1 or higher or an iPhone with an operating system of 4S or higher.
- Have Gmail as your primary email
- Have at least a high school diploma
- You must have lived in the country you will work from for five consecutive years.
- Use Gmail daily and be familiar with other Google products
- Be familiar with social media
- Know the current and historical information of the country you will work from.
- Be familiar with and able to navigate web browsers
General requirements to work from home for Lionbridge
You need to have the following tools to successfully complete the Lionbridge work from home jobs:
- A comfortable home working office
- A computer with Windows 7 or higher or Apple OS
- Software applications like Antivirus software and Adobe Flash Player, among others
- Be connected to high-speed internet with minimum upload speeds of at least 1mbps

Cons of working from home for Lionbridge
Most people have complained about their rigorous entry exam before they hire you. Although I passed the exam on my first trial, you indeed have a lot of reading to do to prepare for it. Spare quite some time to do this.
From my experience working at Lionbridge, jobs can sometimes be few and far between. You really do not know when to expect work and you just have to log in and check if there is work available.
Alternatively, you can set the system to send you an email any time there is work on the platform. You then just log into the system and work.
Not knowing when to expect work makes it hard to plan for it.

Yes, it is. Lionbridge is a well-known company, and I have personally worked for them and they have paid me. I can therefore confirm that they are legitimate.

The pay depends on the job they hire you for, but it ranges between $11 to $16 per hour.
Can I work for Lionbridge and Appen at the same time?
The answer is no. They clearly indicate that you should not apply if you already work in the same capacity for another company. I’m not sure how they would find out that you are working for another company, but it is better to be safe and follow their rules.
How do I get hired with Lionbridge?
I worked as a rater for Lionbridge and I had to go through a rigorous exam and pass before being hired. The exam is not hard but there is so much material that you have to read and understand for you to pass the exam. If I remember right, it was over 100 pages of reading!
How do I pass the Lionbridge rater exam?
You have no option but to go through all the material they provide. Give yourself ample time, like a day or two, to read the material comprehensively before you attempt the first part of the exam.
After finishing the first part, go through the guidelines one more time before doing the rest of the exam. They base the exam on the guidelines and if you read thoroughly, you will pass.
